PRP vs. Corticosteroids

Understanding your options for lasting relief

When considering options for long-term pain relief, it helps to understand the difference between PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy and traditional corticosteroid injections.

  • Our approach to relief. PRP aims to support your body's own tissue-repair response. Corticosteroids primarily suppress inflammation for temporary relief without promoting repair.
  • Ideal for. PRP is generally considered for chronic issues where tissue repair is the goal — osteoarthritis, ligament injuries, tendinitis. Corticosteroids are often used for rapid relief during acute flare-ups.
  • Longevity of effects. Corticosteroids offer rapid, short-term reduction (weeks to months). PRP is intended to work gradually over time.
  • Your goals. If immediate reduction is your priority, corticosteroids may fit better. If you want to address the underlying condition, PRP may be worth discussing.

The published evidence on PRP is genuinely mixed — we explain what the research does and doesn't show on our Science page. Any decision is made with your physician after individual evaluation.

Numb and in pain at the same time?

That combination confuses almost everyone — and it has a straightforward explanation. Tap either button below: a healthy nerve carries a clean signal, while a damaged one lets it stutter and stall. Some messages never arrive; others fire when nothing caused them.

No jargon, no sales pitch. Just the honest version, including what the research doesn't support.

See the difference for yourself

Diagram of a nerve fiber carrying a signal An illustration comparing a healthy insulated nerve fiber, where the signal travels smoothly and quickly, with a damaged nerve fiber whose insulation is broken, where the signal travels slowly and irregularly.
Signal speed Fast & steady
Insulation (myelin) Intact
What you'd feel Normal sensation

In a healthy nerve, the insulation is continuous and the signal jumps quickly from gap to gap — arriving strong and on time.

My husband has battled his sciatica nerve issues for at least 20+ years. He is very much a skeptic and does not do pain medication except for occasional Advil.

Beyond Symptoms

"Whole person" wellness — find your solution

At NeuroRenew Clinics, our focus is on your whole-person wellness. We work directly with you to pinpoint your individual health needs and develop a personalized plan aimed at enhancing your overall quality of life — not just masking one symptom at a time.

That means being direct about what a therapy can and can't do, recommending it only when your presentation supports it, and coordinating across our programs instead of defaulting to a single tool for every problem.
